img_385_y2w_beftfhu
King of the air. Under total protection since 1953. Wingspan up to max. 2.2 m. Takes its prey by surprise: in summer mainly marmots, in winter ungulates and carrion. Its talons can puncture prey's skull. Pairs remain together for life. Two eggs laid in April; the firstborn often kills its sibling (Cainism). Golden eagles vehemently defend their territory (50-100 km2) against intruders. Can live up to 20 years.
