Event Tschlin
Book presentation: Through the Alpine Raetia. In Campbell's footsteps in Tschlin
Description
The "Topographical Description of the Alpine Rhaetia" by Ulrich Campbell (Durich Chiampell) is the first historical-geographical representation of Graubünden. The Latin text remained unprinted at the time. For the first time, our edition publishes it in its entirety from the original manuscript and also offers a complete translation for the first time.
In the last phase of his life – from his not entirely voluntary departure from Chur in 1574 to his death around 1582 – Campbell worked as pastor of Tschlin, the lowest and smallest community in the Lower Engadine. He preached here in the church of San Plasch, where our event is taking place. In Tschlin, however, Campbell continued to be active as a journalist, and from here he intervened on various occasions in the (church) politics of the Three Leagues.
