By land to New York. Live report by Leavinghomefunktion

After the three events "Gateway to Antarctica" by Kerstin Langenberger, Anselm Pahnke "Elsewhere. Alone in Africa" and "Jerusalem in a roundabout way" by Johannes Maria Schwarz will be followed on 02.11.2024 by the fourth live report of Leavinghome function "On the way to New York".
From Germany to New York – for two and a half years, the five-member artist collective "Leavinghomefunktion" always headed east. First through Europe and the countries of the former Soviet Union, later through the USA and Canada. Their Soviet motorcycles ensured leisurely progress, countless breakdowns and incredible adventures – the best conditions for getting in touch with the country and its people.
Anne Knödler, Elisabeth Oertel, Efy Zeniou, Kaupo Holmberg and Johannes Fötsch wanted to leave their comfort zone and travel overland to New York. What vehicles would be more suitable for this than old Ural motorcycles with sidecars?

The five chugged 40,000 kilometers over the finest tar, endless bumpy roads, desolate forest paths, through deep swamps and raging rivers. At each stop, there were invitations to talk, to tea, to stay. People opened their garages, looked for spare parts and helped with repairs.

They overcame the "Road of Bones", stood trial in Kazakhstan and wandered through the Mongolian steppe. They navigated the Kolyma River to its mouth by raft – powered by the engines of their machines. After the Bering Strait, the tour continued along the west coast to Los Angeles and finally to New York City. Yellow swarms of taxis and a flurry of smartphone flashlights formed the grand finale.
"Tschêlsura" – blanket, literally upper sky. A beautiful word from Romansh and a beautiful, ambiguous designation of the ceiling in a house. We define and shape this second heaven ourselves. We thus determine what stands between us and the heavens. This content aptly describes what was to be achieved with the live reports. Tschêlsura wants to give people an opportunity to question their own perspective on the world. Based on this background, the aim is to offer speakers a platform for their messages and unique photographs.
