In four captivating, virtuosically filmed episodes, Hijo de Sicario portrays Sujo's childhood and adolescence. In doing so, the filmmakers stage the story of their protagonist from the perspective of those fellow human beings who help shape his life: his aunts Nemesia and Rosalia, who want to protect him; his cousins who dream of a career with the local cartel; or Susan, a literature professor, who opens up a new intellectual world for him. The film takes a distinctly female point of view. This is no coincidence, because it is the women who enrich Sujo's life and show the possibility of an alternative path to the toxic-masculine world of the drug cartels.
