Once upon a time there was a 210-year-old oak tree, as mighty as the world tree, the centre of a cosmos in miniature: guardian of natural balance and round-the-clock hotel for friendly guests, cunning parasites and unscrupulous robbers. The love of nature inspired Laurent Charbonnier and Michel Seydoux to create a spectacular adventure nature film of a special kind, which was created in months of shooting in the lush landscape of Sologne.

For the opulent production, the directing duo chose unusual
protagonists: squirrels, woodpeckers, weevils, jays, ants, field mice. The majestic oak not only provides food and lodging for this lively society, but also protection in the changing seasons. The film dispenses with an accompanying commentary that would only disturb the poetic harmony. It is nature itself that has its say here; only sporadically surprising humorous accents are set with music. If they thrive undisturbed, some oaks grow in 500 or even 1000 years to symbols of power that inspire awe in every attentive hiker. Le Chêne elevates this awe to an exciting experience.
