Seminar with FRANCINE SCHLOETH, Teacher of Fine Arts The Basel School of Design. Studies of Japanese Lacquer during 2014 and 2017 in Wajima and Kyoto, Japan

In this seminar you will gain an insight into the fascinating world of Japanese lacquer technology as a complex craft. 5 different techniques of painting with cashew lacquer on metal, wood and plastic are shown.
These can be applied in parallel to the jewelry or objects brought along.

You will get to know primers, mix the colors, the whole process of painting, layer by layer, wet grinding and the final polishing method.

The materials used are different types of grains, seeds, gold, copper and silver powders, eggshells and textiles, which create refined textures and patterns.

The finished painted lacquer parts are resistant to water, alcohol, solvents and acids, permanently elastic and food-safe.
