NATURAMA lecture: A life with lynx, bear and wolf

After a century of absence, the three large domestic carnivores are back among us. Their repopulation of the Alps is a process that is far from complete – nor is the achievement of peaceful coexistence. Lynx, bear and wolf have returned to a different world than those who left them. We humans have forgotten how to live with them. Damage to pets, competition with hunting and a general fear do not make it easier. Although the large predators lynx, wolf or bear are the symbol of wild animals par excellence, it is difficult for us humans to see them only as such. We attribute certain traits to them: aggressive, bloodthirsty, devious. But these are human qualities that we project onto them.
