Cinema Staziun Lavin - À VOIX BASSE

Description

À VOIX BASSE
FR 2026 / Director: Leyla Bouzid

Lilia has built a life of her own in Paris, far from her family’s expectations. When she returns to her parents’ home in Tunisia, time seems to stand still: familiar rooms, old rituals, and three generations of women, between whom much remains unsaid. But her return stirs up unrest. Her uncle’s death raises questions that no one wants to address. The more Lilia searches for answers, the deeper she becomes entangled in a web of silence and enigmatic hints. In her quest for the truth, she begins to understand how much the unspoken has shaped her life—and seeks a way to break free from it.

With “À voix basse,” director Leyla Bouzid embarks on a journey to her homeland of Tunisia and takes a close look at society and family traditions. The strong all-female cast, featuring Eya Bouteraa, Hiam Abbass, and Marion Barbeau, carries this intimate family portrait about unspoken truths and the quiet longing for understanding. Presented in the competition at the 2026 Berlinale, the film stands as a powerful example of auteur cinema with great emotional depth.
