Young piano tuner Niki White (Leo Woodall) has an extremely sensitive ear that detects the slightest deviations whenever an instrument is out of tune—but at the same time, it overwhelms him. Together with his mentor Harry Horowitz (Dustin Hoffman), he travels from job to job throughout New York, where they restore instruments to perfect tuning in apartments, rehearsal spaces, and concert halls. An encounter with composition student Ruthie opens up new perspectives for Niki. When shady characters realize that his sense of hearing can also reveal combination locks, he finds himself caught up in dangerous circles and must decide whom he can trust—and how he wants to use his talent.
