Scuol Classics: Carmina Burana

Following the successful performance of Ludwig van Beethoven's 9th Symphony in the summer of 2024 in the Gurlaina Hall in Scuol, the Scuol Classics association's next major cultural project will follow in 2026: Carl Orff's Carmina Burana with the Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra from San Francisco!
O Fortuna! Carmina Burana refers both to a medieval collection of songs and poems and to a scenic cantata by Carl Orff. The manuscript, originally discovered in the Benedictbeuern monastery, contains texts in Latin and Middle High German. In 1935/36, Orff set selected pieces from it to music, creating a cantata that became particularly famous for its monumental opening chorus ‘O Fortuna’. It premiered on 8 June 1937 at the Frankfurt Opera – and almost nine decades later, this work can be heard again in the Lower Engadine.
