Description

In the eastern part of the Engadin village Guarda, an alpine path climbs toward Val Tuoi. After overcoming the first elevation level over open terrain, the trail branches right in Clüsch. It continues through peaceful forests up to Alp Sura. Alp Sura lies above the tree line at the foot of Piz Cotschen. It is worth taking a break here, if only for the view of the Engadin mountain world: to the north towers Piz Buin, on the other side is Piz Macun, and far below winds the Inn through the Engadin valley.

Because of alpine dangers, further advance into the valley without a mountain guide is discouraged. The descent initially follows the alpine road. After the first distinct left turn, take the old path to Perlas and continue over the clearing. Through open forest, Clüsch is reached again and then the road back to Guarda.

Geheimtipp

As a conclusion to the route, it is recommended to spend a little more time in the Engadin village. Guarda is known for its village scenery with a picturesque village square and splendid houses decorated with sgraffito. One of these inspired Alois Carigiet when drawing Schellen-Urslis' house. The well-known story about the custom "Chalandamarz" is set in this Lower Engadin village.
