The route starts at the PostBus stop «Stabelchod (P8)» on the Ofenpassstrasse. The path leads away from the road, upwards into a uniform mountain pine forest, which was last radically logged about 150 years ago. Passing several clearings, the path reaches Alp Stabelchod. The former alpine hut serves as a base for the park rangers and is not accessible to visitors.
From the alp, the route zigzags uphill through the God da Margunet. Higher up, the path flattens out, and fantastic views open up to the opposite Murteras da Stabelchod above the tree line, where chamois or deer can often be spotted. The path continues to the Val da Stabelchod rest area. From the rest area, the gradient increases again, and the path leads in a long zigzag past meadows of edelweiss and gentian upwards to Margunet (2328 m a.s.l.), where an impressive panorama awaits.
After the highest point at the signpost, the path turns north and then finally west into the Val dal Botsch, quickly losing altitude until crossing the Ova da Val dal Botsch. Here the path branches off towards Fuorcla Val dal Botsch and Val Mingèr (see route «Fuorcla Val dal Botsch»). Over huge scree cones, the path continues to the Val dal Botsch rest area and into a beautiful mountain pine forest with dense ground vegetation.
At the former parking lot 7 (1876 m a.s.l.), the path reaches the Ofenpassstrasse (no PostBus stop!) and crosses the road to lead west towards Il Fuorn. From here, a short walk back to the starting point Stabelchod (P8) is also possible, allowing the hike to be completed as a circular route.
The last section to Il Fuorn is worthwhile, as the hike concludes along the rushing Ova dal Fuorn, through a moist mixed forest of pines, spruces, larches, and Swiss stone pines – a striking contrast to the previously traversed dry mountain pine forest. Opposite the 1951 forest fire area, the path reaches the edge of the Ofenberg estate and thus the destination at the PostBus stop «Il Fuorn (P6)» and the Parc Naziunal Il Fuorn hotel.
