READING LOLITA IN TEHRAN
IT, IL 2025 / Director: Eran Riklis

When the Islamic morality police carry out arbitrary raids in Tehran and fundamentalists take over the universities, former literature professor Azar Nafisi secretly gathers six of her most dedicated female students in the mid-1990s to read banned Western classics. Like the heroines of Nabokov, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Henry James or Jane Austen, the women in Nafisi's living room dare to dream, hope and love.

"Reading Lolita in Tehran" by Israeli director Eran Riklis is the film adaptation of Azar Nafisi's autobiographical novel. The film shows the remarkable resilience of women in revolutionary Iran and the complex everyday challenges when people are politically, morally and personally restricted in their freedom.

Drama, language: E / subtitles: DE, 108 min., rated 14+.
