Description

A rarely undertaken and therefore quiet hike through a secluded spruce-larch-pine forest with magnificent individual trees, mostly near the Spölbach. Along the route you can observe the varied birdlife. If you are lucky, you might discover a dipper on a dive. The field name "Charbunera" indicates that charcoal was produced here before the National Park was founded.

Note: Dogs are not allowed in the Swiss National Park, not even on a leash. Further information on this and all protection regulations can be found at www.nationalpark.ch/en/visit/hiking/protection-regulations/.

Geheimtipp

From Charbunera, the hike can be extended via Alp la Schera (see route "Alp la Schera").

Sicherheitshinweis

Directions

The hike begins at car park 3 and the post bus stop Vallun Chafuol (P3) (1766 m a.s.l.) on the Ofenpass road. The trail descends to the bridge over the Ova Spin equalisation basin and climbs again on the other side to the Plan Praspöl clearing (1690 m a.s.l.). There the route branches off to the south. For a long time it goes up and down on a narrow path through a spruce-larch-pine forest, always accompanied by new views of the course of the Spöl river. After crossing the stream from Val da la Föglia, you reach the clearing of Plan da l'Acqua Suot, where, with a bit of luck, red deer can be seen grazing. At Punt Periv, the trail changes to the other side of the Spös and then climbs towards the north. Soon there is a fork (1720 m a.s.l.), here you could also choose the path to Punt dal Gall (dam of the Livigno reservoir) as a variant. From Punt dal Gall the Silvestri bus from Livigno returns to Zernez (Swiss tickets valid). Without a variant, the trail continues northwards, through the forest of La Schera, to the Charbunera, a small saddle between the Munt la Schera and the small Piz la Schera. In the past, wood piles were piled up here and charcoal was produced. At the following fork, the trail continues northeast and leaves the valley of the Spöls. Instead, the Ova dal Fuorn now accompanies the hikers with its roar. The destination of the hike, the customs house of Punt la Drossa with the post bus stop of the same name (1704 m above sea level), soon becomes visible.
