Yorkshire in 1992. During the day they work underground, in the evening they make music - the men of the miners' band in the small town of Grimley. But times are hard. The miners are threatened by the closure of the colliery and the brass band is to be disbanded. That's when the beautiful Gloria (Tara Fitzgerald) returns to her home town. With her flugelhorn, she brings a breath of fresh air to the band and excitement to Andy's (Ewan McGregor) life.
