Snacks, drinks and a guided tour await you.
The exhibition "Profusion", dedicated to the work of Croatian artist Edita Schubert, is conceived with special care for the relationship between the works and the architecture of the Muzeum Susch - a place that, due to its history and unique structure, requires not only technical precision but also a special spatial sensitivity.
The curatorial concept is being developed in close collaboration with the museum team and aims to create a presentation that enters into an authentic, multi-layered dialog with Schubert's works.
The installation "Doorway 12" (1978) will be shown in one of the museum's largest rooms - a cycle of twelve canvases attached to pins, which appear like doors or passageways in a rhythmic arrangement. This work forms a central point of reference for other works by the artist, which - like this installation - play with space, perspective and illusion.
In an adjacent, smaller room, a painting depicting a staircase is hung, which is combined with two real wooden steps. This staging opens up the space visually and creates the illusion that the viewer can "climb into the painting". This playful exploration of perception and illusion was a central means of expression in Schubert's practice.
The exhibition also shows the stylistic and material diversity of her work. On display are hyper-realistic paintings with pop-cultural echoes, organic installations - including circles filled with dried herbs and rose petals - and collages in which classical sculptural representations are combined with graphic forms from the 1990s that are reminiscent of the aesthetics of photocopiers or digital printing.
On the top floor of the museum, a series of self-portraits is presented - not as a traditional hanging on the wall, but distributed across glass tubes and photo stands. This special form of presentation forces visitors to engage with the works in a different, more physical way. The exhibition concludes with Schubert's final work: a cycle of photographs attached to rings at head height - exactly as she wanted. In this way, visitors do not look at the works of art, but enter into a direct - almost intimate - relationship with them that eludes classic museum reception.
The "Profusion" exhibition will comprise around 100 works. It not only brings Edita Schubert's work closer to a wider audience, but also underlines her innovative understanding of medium, form and space - and shows how original and radical her artistic vision was, especially in the context of Eastern European feminist art of the late 1980s and 1990s.
