Description
From Zernez the bike path along the valley floor leads along the Inn with an unobstructed view of Piz Linard to Susch. «La Tuor» and the church characterise the village as well as the fortress "Fortezza Rohan" enthroned on a hill. The pass village at the foot of the Flüela is located in the triangle between Scuol, Zernez and Davos, and is ideal for excursions to the neighbouring villages and valleys. Susch is the only place in the Lower Engadine where the Inn flows through the middle of the village. Together with the Flüela Pass and the Vereina tunnel, it forms the only traffic junction to the northwest. Continuing along the river, you reach the sunny village of Lavin. The wall paintings in the church of San Güerg (built around 1500) are among the most valuable art monuments in Graubünden. In the course of the Reformation, the paintings were completely painted over with whitewash in 1529 and were only uncovered in 1956 during the last church renovation. During the day the church can be visited free of charge. The ruins of the hamlet of «Gonda», whose demise remains a mystery to this day, is located on a marked field road leading toward Guarda. The stage destination of Guarda lies high above the Inn on a sunny terrace and was awarded the Henri-Louis Wakker Prize for its characteristic townscape in as early as 1975. The Engadine village is also internationally renowned for its children's book and film hero Schellen-Ursli.
