Description
From the Tarasp-Fontana postbus stop, we hike southwest past the Hotel Tarasp and then slightly uphill to the left into the light larch forest. A comfortable path steadily leads us up to the ridge and the flat ground covered by a raised bog. At the southern edge of this bog, we now walk through a larch grove on a level path towards Lai Nair. It is a typical moor lake, shallow, dark, and with silting shores. On the east side of the lake, a small hill rises, offering many beautiful picnic and resting spots. Magnificent here is also the view up the Engadin and across to Piz Minschun and Piz Champatsch.
We now go past the lake onto the path running north of it and follow the signpost pointing down to Tarasp and Vulpera. Shortly after, we reach a minor road. It leads from Tarasp to Avrona. In Avrona, there is a well-known anthroposophical boarding school and a pretty little restaurant.
We follow the minor road towards Tarasp to the forest edge. The most comfortable and shortest option continues along the road out to Tarasp. After a short time, however, we turn right and head over to the hamlet of Sparsels. Here stand typical, charming Engadin houses, and here also start the guided tours to Tarasp Castle. Impressive and close, it rises above the houses of Sparsels.
A somewhat steeper and longer option leads us from the signpost at the forest edge down to Vulpera. From here, we can return by postbus to the Scuol train station, or continue on foot further out to Scuol.
