The mineral water expert
Marianna Sempert

From the spa town to the spring paradise
Marianna grew up near the spa town of Baden. As a violin teacher and musician in various ensembles, she has always travelled a lot. Even as a child, she spent a lot of time hiking in the mountains with her father. When the Engiadina Bassa Val Müstair music school was looking for a violin teacher, she knew she had to apply.
As soon as I arrived in Scuol for the job interview, I felt at home. I have arrived here and want to stay forever.

As a Swiss German speaker at the Scuol language centre
Marianna was fascinated by the Romansh language from an early age. At the age of 20, she decided to learn Romansh. Equipped with a textbook, Marianna gradually learnt the language. After moving to the Engadin, she intensified her learning and was able to put what she had learnt into practice immediately at work as secretary to the mayor. Since moving to the language office, she has been more involved with specialised texts, such as revising and translating municipal laws.
I really enjoy writing voting messages, as I am responsible for ensuring that they are read and viewed with pleasure and I am then proud to hold the booklet in my hand.

Fascination for mineral water
Her job at the municipality is also partly responsible for Marianna's fascination with the Scuol mineral springs and their history. The municipal council wanted to analyse the condition of the springs and the wells, which were over 100 years old, and Marianna was allowed to go along on the inspections. She was also a board member of the ‘Pro Aua Minerala’ foundation, which is committed to preserving and promoting the mineral springs and their surroundings.

Your favourite source: San Jon Dadaint
The San Jon Dadaint spring has something very special for Marianna. It consists of a large, staircase-shaped limestone tuff and the pond with the mineral water is only visible at the very top. This place in the middle of the forest is her place of strength and she likes to show it to her circle of friends. What's more, there is always something new to discover there. Deer are even said to roll around in the mud there from time to time.

Orienteering for balance and discovering new places
To balance out her office work, Marianna takes part in orienteering races all over Switzerland. She is fascinated by this sport and wants to pass on this orienteering euphoria. She enjoys the moments «alone» in the forest, listening to the chirping of the birds and occasionally forgetting that she is looking for a control. What's more, orienteering always introduces her to new places that she would otherwise never have visited.
I used to have poor orientation and often got lost. Now I try to find the posts even more elegantly every time.
