Delia lives with her three children and her abusive husband Ivano in a run-down apartment in a poor neighborhood of Rome. We are in the second half of the 1940s, and this ordinary family lives in a Rome torn between the positive thrust of liberation and the misery of the war that is just behind them. Although Delia is poor, she is very strong-willed and tries to save some money with odd jobs for a project that her husband is not allowed to know about. In addition to her husband's violence, the more subtle social brutality in general and male dominance can also be found in every corner of her everyday life. Until a mysterious letter arrives that gives her the courage to throw everything overboard. A film that manages to bring tragedy and humor together in an entertaining way.
